Waiting for CollumBob Moriarty I devour books. It’s a side effect of Aspergers. I also cannot spell. So, I keep a dozen books by my beside. With any luck they will last a couple of weeks. I can’t stand the idea of putting money in the pockets of Bezos but there is something magic about spending a short time on Amazon and loading up on more books. My biggest problem is who to dump them on when I am through. I’m quite impressed when I see someone being interviewed with a nice bookcase in the background. I know that person doesn’t read very much. If you can fit all your books on a bookcase, that isn’t many books. Giving books away is not an easy task. It’s not like I am a connoisseur of fine books. When you consume books, often one a day, you will read any old crap. I will find an author I like and buy a dozen of their different titles. I’ll read anything. But there is one special writer who is in a class of his own. That would be Professor of Chemistry at Cornell University David B. Collum. We have a long history. He sent something to us in 2008 under a nom de plume. Dave is something to the right of Attila the Hun who teaches at a school populated with a hoard of leftists. He believed at the time that if the administration thought he was sharing his clearly wrong opinions with the world he would be dragged out of his classroom in the midst of a lecture, taken to the nearest tall oak tree and strung up. He may still be right about that. Having an intelligent and educated view of events of the world surely should be silenced. If the government and the oligarchs who own us want our views, they will tell us what they are. Dave Collum is in a class of all his own. I know of no other writer in any genre who produces the sort of material Dave puts out. He saves interesting little tidbits on scraps of paper all year and posts it all on Peak Prosperity every December. This will give you some idea of how Dave thinks and writes. It is the first illustration in the book. There literally is nothing else published either in print or on the web that compares to Dave Collum. He covers half a dozen major and typical subjects and hundreds of minor issues most of us miss. He does at least one podcast interview a week, teaches students, invests on his own behalf and somehow manages to organize his thoughts in book length to post every December. I like to think I am an entertaining and very funny writer and speaker on a regular basis but I can’t compare with Dave. He really is funny and his opinions are grounded in reality. I hate him most of the time. He’s even better looking than I am. The 2024 Year in Review contained what would be obvious areas of interest to anyone who keeps up with the state of the world. We had the election. And I’ll admit, I was pretty convinced the Democrats would somehow manage to steal it the way they obviously did in 2020. The whole Democrat side of the election turned into a joke. Kamala Harris is the only female politician more widely disliked that Hillary Clinton. I even wrote a book about her Word Salad. She wasn’t elected as Democrat candidate for President, she was appointed. We are going down the Romania route and Canada route where voters literally no longer have a say. Of course, the 2.5 attempts on Trump’s life made for some interesting reading. I just happened to have been in high school in Fort Worth in 1963. I saw the Presidential motorcade as JFK arrived in Fort Worth the night before he was murdered. Conspiracy theories soon came out after the shooting. Now, some sixty-three years later, it is obvious it was a government hit job. Reading Dave Collum in 2024 YIR you will be shocked at how obvious it was in the two actual attempts on Trump that the Deep State had him in their sights. And fucked it up from point blank range. But military functionaries are so incompetent in the US today that after months of planning and millions of dollars spent in the biggest act of international terrorism in history the magnificent bloated US military only managed to destroy three of the four Nord Stream pipe lines. Of course, the US did it. We know that because they fucked that up as well. The Chancellor of Germany gave permission to Biden for the attack. The results were to bankrupt Germany. I truly enjoy reading Dave Collum because he isn’t married to any particular point of view or subject. In the 2024 YIR he devoted what you could call a full chapter to WW II and FDR. You cannot but help learn something you didn’t realize before when reading Dave. I came across a few pieces suggesting FDR had a lot more to do with inciting the war than most people realize. Of course, it is tacky of me to be critical but while I love reading Dave each year in December on Peak Prosperity, the length of his writing doesn’t lend itself easily to reading on a computer. Dave broke the 2024 YIR into two parts but it’s still long. As soon as the book was in print I ordered a copy. It still took me two nights pouring through the book to finish it. I happen to be a book guy. I want to hold physical paper in my hands. A good friend of mine who knows how much I read bought me the very first Kindle when it came out in 2007. Mine is going to be very valuable. I never even opened the package. I have zero interest in reading books on an electronic device. The magic of Collum’s YIR going back to 2008 lies in seeing just how his investment advice changed. He is a consistent and profitable trader. Reading his advice from one year, indeed, one decade to another is an eye opener. If you are going to buy and read one interesting book this year, this should be it. Now I’m dying to see what he is going to say about Stacey Abrams snarfing a $2 billion grant from the Biden administration to fund an NGO that had a value of only $100 the year before. The purpose of the grant is going to fund low energy appliances for people who can’t afford them. Why do I suspect 80% of the money will go to expenses and salaries? But another exciting adventure will be when someone has combed through the JFK files and come up with some answers. It seems the CIA has been utterly out of control since it began and has been behind every stupid and meaningless war the US has fought since the 1940s. Buy the book. It’s worth every cent. My editor put the book together because he thinks so much of Dave’s writing but Dave makes every cent in revenue. ### Bob Moriarty |
